Family Vision Board

A family vision board is the version everyone gets a say in, which is exactly why it works. Fill the nine squares together, one or two per person, put a date on each thing you are aiming at, and save a board the whole household has actually agreed to.

Keep your vision board alive

A family board made on one evening is easy to lose track of by the next season. Vision Boardly keeps yours where everyone can find it, brings each date back as it comes close, and tracks the habits underneath so shared plans stay shared.

Family vision board questions

Households making decisions together rather than in parallel. It suits families planning a move, a trip or a change in how the year runs, and it suits any household where people are quietly aiming at different things without saying so.

Give each person squares to fill rather than deciding as a committee. One or two each usually works, plus a couple of shared ones everybody agrees on. Building it in the same room is most of the value, because the discussion is the exercise.

A mixture of shared and individual things. The trip, the house, the routine everyone wants changed, alongside one thing each person is working toward alone. A family board of only shared goals usually means somebody quietly gave up their own.

They should, and their choices are often the most honest on the board. Younger children pick concretely, which is useful. Let the square be theirs even if it seems small, because a board somebody was overruled on stops being theirs entirely.

Let it surface, since it was already there. If two people want incompatible things, put both on the board with honest dates rather than choosing one silently. Seeing them side by side usually produces a conversation that was overdue anyway.

Somewhere everyone passes without deciding to, which usually means a kitchen wall or a shared screen. Print it if the household is not all on phones. Visibility to everyone matters more than which format you pick to display it in.

Once a year is enough for most households, or whenever something structural changes such as a move or a new school. Rebuilding the family board together takes half an hour and tends to surface how much has quietly shifted since the last one.
